# Veterans' Security and Pay Transparency Act

This bill requires the Department of Veterans Affairs to publish an annual report showing how much money it pays to police officers and security staff who work at VA facilities across the country. Right now, there's no requirement for this information to be made public, so Congress and the public don't have a clear picture of what these employees actually earn.

The report will break down compensation by individual VA facility and show several types of pay: base salaries, availability pay (extra money for being on-call), bonuses used to recruit or keep officers, and any other compensation. The bill covers eleven different job categories, ranging from police officers and detectives to dispatchers and administrative officers who work in security roles. By requiring this transparency, Congress will be able to see if there are big differences in how much officers earn at different VA locations and whether the VA is spending money effectively to attract and retain security staff.

The practical effect is that this creates accountability and visibility into VA spending on security personnel. Veterans and taxpayers will be able to see how their money is being spent, and Congress can use this information to identify problems—like if certain facilities are paying significantly more or less than others for the same positions, or if bonuses are being used effectively. The VA has six months from when the bill becomes law to submit the first report, and then must continue reporting every year after that.
