# Pentagon Medical Malpractice Claims Reporting Act

This bill requires the Department of Defense to give Congress yearly reports about medical malpractice claims filed by military members. Right now, there's no requirement for the Pentagon to regularly report on these claims to Congress, so lawmakers don't have clear visibility into how many military personnel are being harmed by medical mistakes at military hospitals and clinics, or how those cases are being handled.

Starting immediately and continuing through 2028, the Secretary of Defense must submit annual reports that show several key pieces of information. These reports will include how many medical malpractice claims military members filed that year, how long it typically takes to resolve these claims, and what happened to each claim—whether it was approved, denied, or settled. The reports will also break down why claims were rejected, such as whether they didn't meet specific eligibility requirements or weren't properly documented. This transparency is important because it lets Congress understand patterns in military medical care and identify whether there are systemic problems that need fixing.

For military members and their families, this bill matters because it creates accountability for medical mistakes within the military healthcare system. If a service member is injured due to negligent care at a military hospital, they can file a claim for compensation.
