The CARTEL Act of 2025 requires the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency to publicly share detailed statistics about what happens at America's borders every month. Starting two months after the law takes effect, CBP must post information on the Department of Homeland Security website showing how many people are caught trying to enter illegally, where they're from, how many drugs are seized, and other border activity data. The bill specifically requires CBP to track and report on encounters with people on terrorism watch lists, gang members, criminals wanted by law enforcement, and people connected to drug cartels and organized crime groups. Additionally, the Secretary of Homeland Security must prepare a detailed report for Congress within 90 days—and then every year after that—assessing which foreign terrorist organizations and international criminal organizations are trying to smuggle their members into the United States through the southern border, northern border, or by sea. Essentially, this law makes border security data transparent to the public and ensures Congress gets regular briefings on security threats at the borders.
