The only people exempt are individuals selling items through someone else's platform (like someone selling used items on Facebook Marketplace), since they're not operating the website itself.

If a retailer doesn't follow this rule, the Federal Trade Commission can treat it as a deceptive business practice and take action against them, similar to how they handle false advertising or other misleading sales tactics. The FTC would have the power to investigate complaints, issue fines, and force companies to comply.

The practical effect is that shoppers would have easier access to information about where products come from when shopping online. This could help people make more informed purchasing decisions if they prefer domestically-made goods, want to support certain countries, or have concerns about labor practices in particular regions. However, the bill doesn't require retailers to stock certain products or change their inventory—it just requires transparency about what they're already selling.

Country of Origin Labeling Requirement Act This bill requires sellers of products online to conspicuously disclose the country of origin of the products. This requirement does not apply to individuals selling products through third-party websites.
