# CHAMPVA Children's Care Protection Act of 2025

This bill extends health insurance coverage for children of military families through a program called CHAMPVA (Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs). Right now, children can stay on their parents' CHAMPVA coverage until they turn 21, or until 23 if they're enrolled full-time in college. This bill would extend that age limit to 26 for all children, regardless of whether they're married or in school.

CHAMPVA provides health insurance to families of veterans who died in service or have service-connected disabilities, as well as some other eligible military families. It's similar to how private health insurance plans like those offered by employers often cover young adults up to age 26. By raising the age limit, more young adults would have access to this military health benefit during their early twenties, a time when many are finishing college, starting their first jobs, or figuring out their career path.

The practical effect is that young adults from military families would have more time to find stable employment with health insurance before losing their CHAMPVA coverage. This could be especially helpful for those who graduate college and are job-hunting, or those pursuing additional education or training. The change would take effect immediately once the bill becomes law and would apply to all medical care provided after that date. The bill also preserves special eligibility rules for children with disabilities, ensuring they continue to receive coverage beyond age 26 if they qualify under existing disability provisions.
