This bill makes sure the federal government keeps running a program that helps communities prepare for health problems caused by climate change. Right now, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) runs something called the Climate and Health program through its National Center for Environmental Health. This bill essentially locks that program in place and guarantees it will continue operating, rather than letting it disappear or get absorbed into other programs without anyone noticing.

The program does three main things. First, it takes complicated climate science and translates it into information that state and local governments, Native American tribes, and communities can actually use to make decisions. Second, it creates tools and resources to help these groups get ready for climate-related health emergencies—things like extreme heat waves, flooding, or disease outbreaks that become more common as the climate changes. The bill sets aside $110 million per year starting in 2026 specifically for this program, and it includes an important protection: that money can't be secretly moved around to fund other government programs. If the CDC ever tries to replace this program with something else, they have to tell Congress about it in writing.
