However, the credit starts to shrink if you earn above certain income thresholds. For single filers, the credit begins to reduce once your income exceeds $200,000 and disappears entirely at $300,000. For married couples filing jointly, these thresholds are doubled—the credit starts reducing at $400,000 in income and phases out completely at $600,000.

The bill also includes some important restrictions. You can't use this credit if your insurance already covers the fertility treatment costs, and you can't claim the same expenses twice through different tax benefits. If you have unused credit in a given year—meaning your fertility expenses exceeded what you could claim—you can carry that unused credit forward for up to five years.
