# Kenneth P. Thompson Begin Again Act

This bill gives people a second chance if they've been convicted of simple drug possession for the first time. Specifically, it allows people who were convicted of possessing small amounts of drugs for personal use—and who have no history of violent crimes—to have that conviction erased from their record after they successfully complete the probation that the court ordered them to do.

The key change this bill makes is removing an age restriction that currently exists. Right now, federal law only lets people under 21 years old erase these types of drug possession convictions. This bill removes that age limit, meaning adults of any age who meet the other requirements can now get their conviction expunged. So a 35-year-old who was convicted of simple possession decades ago and completed their probation would now have the opportunity to clear their record, just like a younger person could.
