# Capitol Remembrance Act

This bill directs the Architect of the Capitol to create and install a permanent exhibit inside the U.S. Capitol building that documents the January 6, 2021 attack. The exhibit needs to be completed within two years of the bill becoming law and placed in a prominent location where visitors and members of Congress will see it.

The exhibit will include several specific elements. It will preserve and display damaged property from the Capitol building and grounds that was destroyed during the attack. It will also feature photographs taken during the event to provide a visual record of what happened. Most significantly, the bill requires a plaque that honors the law enforcement officers who died protecting the building—specifically naming Capitol Police Officers Brian Sicknick and Howard Liebengood, and Metropolitan Police Officers Jeffrey Smith, Gunther Hashida, and Kyle DeFreytag. The plaque will also recognize other officers and staff who were injured or helped restore the Capitol after the attack.

The bill allows the Architect to include artwork depicting the attack as well, giving some flexibility in how the exhibit is designed. The legislation doesn't specify exactly what the exhibit will look like or how much it will cost, but it authorizes whatever funding is necessary to complete the project. Essentially, this is Congress directing that a permanent memorial to the January 6 attack be created inside the Capitol building itself, ensuring future generations of visitors will have a record of what occurred that day and the people who were affected by it.

Capitol Remembrance ActThis bill requires the Architect of the Capitol (AOC) to design and install in a prominent location in the U.S. Capitol a permanent exhibit that depicts the January 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.To the extent possible, the AOC must preserve property that was damaged during the attack and include it in the exhibit. The AOC must also include (1) existing photographic records relating to the attack; and (2) a plaque to honor the U.S. Capitol Police and other law enforcement agencies that protected the Capitol, the individuals who died or sustained injuries to protect the Capitol, and the staff who helped restore the Capitol complex after the attack.The&nbsp;exhibit shall be installed within two years after the bill's enactment.&nbsp;
