This bill would reduce the amount of money available to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for the fiscal year 2024. The USGS is the government agency responsible for studying natural resources, natural hazards, and environmental conditions across the country. They do things like monitor earthquakes, track water quality, study wildlife populations, and research climate and geological changes. By limiting their funding for surveys, investigations, and research activities, this bill would restrict how much work the agency can do in these areas during 2024. This could mean fewer studies conducted, delayed research projects, or reduced monitoring of important environmental and geological issues. Scientists, researchers, and communities that rely on USGS data and reports—such as those dealing with earthquake preparedness, water management, or environmental protection—could be affected by having less information available or slower access to research results.

To provide for a limitation on availability of funds for U.S. Department of Interior, United States Geologic Service, Surveys Investigations, and Research for fiscal year 2024.
