# The Adams Memorial-Great American Heroes Act

This bill extends the deadline for building a memorial to honor the Adams family and other great American heroes. The Adams Memorial Commission, which was originally supposed to wrap up its work in 2025, now gets until 2032 to complete the project. Think of it like giving a construction project a seven-year extension to finish the job.

The bill also provides $50 million in federal funding to help build this memorial. However, there's a catch: for every dollar the government puts in, private donors and other non-federal sources have to match it with another dollar. So the $50 million in federal money could potentially bring in another $50 million from private contributions, creating a $100 million project overall. Additionally, the bill limits how much of that federal money can go toward administrative costs—no more than 4 percent can be spent on overhead, meaning at least 96 percent must go toward actually building the memorial.

The bill also clarifies where the memorial can be located. Originally, there were strict rules about where commemorative works could be placed in Washington, D.C. This bill allows the Adams Memorial to be built in an expanded area that was identified by the commission in February 2025, giving planners more flexibility in choosing the final location. For most Americans, this bill simply means that a planned memorial project will continue moving forward with adequate funding and a realistic timeline to complete it.

The Adams Memorial-Great American Heroes ActThis bill extends through 2032 the Adams Memorial Commission, whose purpose is to establish a permanent memorial in Washington, DC, to honor John Adams and his legacy.The bill specifies that the Adams Memorial shall be located within the area specified by the <a href="https://docs.house.gov/meetings/II/II10/20250716/118453/HHRG-119-II10-Wstate-CushmanJ-20250716-SD001.pdf">Adams Memorial Commission in a February 25, 2025 map</a> (i.e., south of the White House, adjacent to Ellipse Road&nbsp;and near&nbsp;Pennsylvania Avenue and 15th Street, Northwest).If the Commission determines that this location is not suitable or feasible due to physical or security constraints, the bill requires that the memorial be located in&nbsp;<a href="https://www.ncpc.gov/maps/the-reserve/">the Reserve</a>, an area which generally extends from the United States Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial, and from the White House to the Jefferson Memorial.
