# College Admissions Accountability Act of 2025

This bill creates a new federal watchdog office called the Special Inspector General for Unlawful Discrimination in Higher Education. Think of it as a dedicated investigator whose job is to monitor college admissions practices at schools that receive federal funding.

The bill stems from the 2023 Supreme Court decision that banned race-based admissions policies in colleges. According to the bill's findings, some colleges have tried to work around this ruling by using other methods—like application essays—to achieve similar results. This new office would investigate whether colleges are still discriminating based on race, even after the Supreme Court said they can't. The inspector general would have the power to receive complaints from students or college employees, investigate those complaints, and recommend actions ranging from corrective measures to potential loss of federal funding for schools found to be violating the law.

The office would submit quarterly reports to Congress detailing what violations it found, which schools are cooperating with investigations, and what steps those schools have taken to fix problems. The bill allocates $25 million to run this office and sets it to expire after 12 years. Additionally, the bill makes colleges ineligible for federal student aid if the Secretary of Education determines they've engaged in race-based discrimination in admissions, financial aid, or academic programs.
