# Youth Mental Health Research Act

This bill creates a new research program within the National Institutes of Health specifically focused on understanding and improving mental health in young people. The government would establish what's called the Youth Mental Health Research Initiative, which would bring together different research institutes to work collaboratively on youth mental health issues rather than each working separately on their own projects.

The initiative would be led by the National Institute of Mental Health and would partner with two other institutes that focus on child development and health disparities in minority communities. Together, they'd coordinate research in two main areas: first, studying how social, behavioral, and developmental factors affect young people's mental health, with a focus on building resilience and helping communities spot and support kids who are struggling; and second, figuring out better ways to deliver mental health treatments and interventions in the places where young people actually spend their time—schools, community centers, clinics, and homes.

The bill authorizes $100 million per year for six years (2025 through 2030) to fund this research initiative. This money would support scientists and researchers studying youth mental health problems, testing new approaches to treatment, and developing better strategies for identifying which young people need help. While this doesn't directly provide mental health services to young people, the research funded could eventually lead to better treatments, earlier detection of problems, and more effective ways to deliver mental health care in communities across the country.
