# National POW/MIA Memorial and Museum Act

This bill officially designates a memorial and museum being built in Jacksonville, Florida as the national POW/MIA Memorial and Museum. The facility is being constructed on about 26 acres and is designed to honor American military members who were captured as prisoners of war or went missing in action since World War II. According to the bill, roughly 142,000 service members have been captured as POWs since World War II, and approximately 82,000 remain missing in action or unaccounted for. The museum will feature interactive exhibits, tell the stories of these service members and their families, and serve as an educational center for visitors of all ages.

The bill requires the museum's director to submit a detailed report to Congress within 90 days of the law passing. This report must include a five-year budget plan, information about how the museum is organized, its rules and bylaws, and which organizations have officially accredited it. This ensures Congress has visibility into how the facility will operate and be funded going forward.

There's an important catch: if the museum doesn't open and operate satisfactorily within five years of the law passing, or if the director fails to submit that required report on time, Congress can withdraw the national designation. This gives Congress a way to hold the facility accountable and ensure it actually serves its intended purpose of honoring and educating people about POWs and those missing in action.
