Anyone caught violating it could face civil penalties of up to $250,000 per violation, or they could be forced to pay back all the money they made from the scheme, whichever amount is larger. The SEC could also go to court to stop the sale or distribution of these prohibited digital assets. The SEC would have 180 days after the law passes to write the specific rules for how to enforce it.
