The bill also prevents local governments from asking for unnecessary documentation or requiring companies to jump through extra hoops before officially submitting their request.

The practical effect is that broadband and wireless networks can be upgraded faster, which could lead to better cell service and internet connectivity in your area more quickly. However, local governments still have some ability to reject requests if they determine the modification doesn't actually qualify under the bill's rules, though they must explain their reasoning in writing. If companies believe a local government is wrongfully denying their request, they can sue in federal court, and the court must handle the case on an expedited basis. The Federal Communications Commission has 180 days to write the detailed rules explaining how this process works.
