# Gold Star Spouses Health Care Enhancement Act

This bill removes time limits on health care benefits for surviving spouses of military members who died in service. Right now, Gold Star spouses—the surviving spouses of service members who died on active duty or from service-related causes—can only access certain military health care benefits for three years after their spouse's death. This bill eliminates that three-year deadline, allowing them to keep these benefits indefinitely.

The change applies to two major types of military health care coverage. First, it removes the time limit on TRICARE Prime, which is the military's managed care health insurance program that covers doctor visits, hospital stays, and other medical services. Second, it removes the time limit on dental benefits through the military's dental insurance program. Both of these benefits would now be available to Gold Star spouses for as long as they remain unmarried, rather than expiring after three years.

The practical impact is significant for surviving spouses who are often dealing with grief and financial strain after losing a spouse. Instead of facing a sudden loss of health coverage after three years, they can maintain stable access to military medical and dental care for the rest of their lives.
