The resources NIST develops need to meet specific requirements to be genuinely useful. They should work for many different types of small businesses, not just one industry. They need to help business owners understand the basics of AI and figure out which situations actually make sense for using it—because AI isn't the right solution for every problem. The materials should include real-world examples showing how different sized companies have successfully used AI. Importantly, the resources should focus on technology that's actually affordable and accessible to small businesses, not just cutting-edge tools that cost millions of dollars. The government also wants these resources to align with international standards and connect small businesses to existing federal cybersecurity and educational programs.

Once NIST creates these resources, they'll work with the Small Business Administration to distribute them through the SBA's existing network of resource partners—organizations that already help small businesses. The bill requires NIST to review and update these materials every two years to keep them current as technology changes. Using these resources is completely voluntary; no small business is required to follow them. Finally, four years after the bill passes, NIST must report back to Congress about what resources were created, how small businesses are using them, and whether Congress should take additional steps to help small businesses adopt AI technology.

Small Business Artificial Intelligence Advancement ActThis bill directs the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to develop or identify&nbsp;resources for small businesses to address&nbsp;concerns relating to the use of artificial intelligence (AI). Resources must be generally applicable, technology neutral, and based on relevant voluntary international standards, among other requirements.&nbsp;NIST must coordinate with the Small Business Administration with respect to the distribution of these resources. NIST must also review and update the resources at least biennially.
