The commission will have eight members appointed by congressional leaders—two each from the House Speaker, House Minority Leader, Senate Majority Leader, and Senate Minority Leader. These members will hold hearings, gather evidence from federal and local law enforcement, and interview witnesses. They can subpoena people to testify and require documents to be produced. The commission has one year to complete its work and submit a report to the President and Congress with findings and recommendations. After that, it will shut down within 120 days.
