# What the Rebuilding America's Airport Infrastructure Act Does

This bill increases the passenger facility charge—a small fee that airlines add to your ticket price to help pay for airport improvements. Right now, airports can charge a maximum of $4.50 per passenger on each flight. This bill gradually raises that cap, starting in 2027.

Here's how the fee would increase: Beginning January 1, 2027, the maximum charge goes up to $5.50 per ticket. The following year it rises to $6.50, then $7.50 in 2029. Starting January 1, 2030, it reaches $8.50 and then adjusts automatically each year to keep up with inflation. So if you fly, you'll see this fee added to your ticket price, and it will be slightly higher each year through 2030 and beyond.

The money from these charges goes directly to airports to fund infrastructure projects like terminal renovations, runway repairs, new equipment, and other facility improvements. Airports apply for approval to use these funds for specific projects, and the Federal Aviation Administration oversees how the money is spent. The bill also makes some technical changes to how the FAA administers this program, removing outdated rules that are no longer needed.

For most travelers, this means paying a bit more per flight—roughly a dollar more per ticket each year until 2030. While it's a small amount per trip, frequent flyers will notice the cumulative cost over time. The tradeoff is that airports get more funding to maintain and upgrade their facilities, which theoretically could lead to better conditions, shorter delays, and improved passenger experiences at airports across the country.
