# Understanding the FORCE-FIT Act

This bill creates a five-year pilot program that would give certain active-duty military members continuous glucose monitoring devices—small wearable sensors that track blood sugar levels throughout the day. The program targets service members who fall into specific health categories: those with prediabetes, type 2 diabetes (not requiring insulin), a history of gestational diabetes, or those who are overweight or obese. Additionally, any service member identified as being in the "Partially Medically Ready" or "Not Medically Ready" categories under the military's medical readiness program would be required to participate.

The goal is to use real-time metabolic health data to help these service members improve their overall health and maintain their readiness for duty. Participating members would receive education about metabolic health and services designed to help them get healthier. Military doctors would receive training on how to use this technology and interpret the data. The Defense Department would use the information collected only for providing healthcare, running the medical readiness program, and evaluating whether the pilot works—not for making decisions about discharging or separating service members from the military.

An important protection in the bill prevents private companies providing the monitoring devices from keeping or using any of the health data collected. Once their role is done, they must delete all information. The bill also requires reports to Congress after three years and again after five years to determine whether the program actually improves service members' health and military readiness, and whether it should continue beyond the pilot period.
