This bill makes changes to the Endangered Species Act to allow people who are raising sturgeon in farms or controlled environments to continue doing so without violating federal endangered species protections. To use this exception, anyone holding captive sturgeon must be able to prove that their fish qualify under the new rules and keep detailed records and documentation about their sturgeon populations. They'll need to provide this information to the federal government (the Secretary) whenever asked. The bill specifies that the government shouldn't create unnecessary paperwork or duplicate requirements that already exist under other fish and wildlife regulations. Essentially, this is a targeted measure to allow existing sturgeon farming operations to continue without legal complications, while still maintaining oversight through record-keeping requirements.
