# School Sports Safety Study Act

This bill asks the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to investigate why young athletes die or suffer life-altering injuries while playing high school and college sports, and then figure out how to prevent these tragedies. The CDC will work with the Department of Education and fitness experts to look at what's causing these deaths and injuries, then share their findings and recommendations with schools across the country.

The study will examine everything from the immediate causes of athletic injuries—like heat stroke, cardiac events, or head trauma—to whether emergency equipment like defibrillators and CPR training actually save lives. Researchers will also talk to coaches, athletic trainers, parents, and doctors to get real-world insights. The bill specifically asks them to look at how technology and data tracking might help prevent serious injuries before they happen, and what medical protocols should be in place when injuries do occur.

Within 18 months of the bill becoming law, the CDC has to publish a full report with their recommendations and send it to Congress and all high schools and colleges in the country. The goal is straightforward: take what we know about why young athletes get seriously hurt or die, figure out what actually works to prevent it, and then make sure schools have that information so they can protect their students. This is essentially a fact-finding mission that could lead to better safety practices in youth and college sports, though the bill itself doesn't mandate any specific changes—it just requires the research and recommendations to be done and shared.
