It expands what counts as a priority project by allowing states to identify additional areas through their own forest action plans and wildlife or water plans, giving states more say in where restoration money gets spent.

Finally, the bill extends the program's funding authorization from 2023 through 2031, ensuring the program can continue its work for several more years. The changes maintain existing protections for roadless forest areas while allowing the program to be more flexible in addressing wildfire recovery and natural resource protection across different regions.
