Here's who this affects and how: If you operate a fleet of electric trucks or buses—whether you're a delivery company, a city transit system, a port authority, or even a rural electric cooperative—you could get money back to help pay for charging stations. The rebate covers not just the charger itself, but also the cost of installation, electrical upgrades, permits, and labor. For nonprofits and government agencies, the government would cover up to 80 percent of the costs, while private companies would get up to 50 percent back. There are also bonus amounts available if your vehicles operate in areas with poor air quality or in rural regions where charging infrastructure is scarce.

The bill sets specific limits on how much equipment qualifies for rebates. A basic Level 2 charger (the slower kind) can get up to $4,000 in rebates, while a fast DC charger can get up to $100,000. Any single fleet operator can receive up to $1 million in total rebates for active projects. The program would have $250 million available each year from 2022 through 2025. There's one catch: if you receive a rebate for a charger, you can't also claim a federal tax credit for that same equipment, and you have to keep the charging station maintained and working for at least five years after you get the rebate money.
