This bill creates stronger federal protections for police dogs and horses used in law enforcement. The practical effect is twofold: people who deliberately harm police animals face serious federal criminal penalties, and injured police dogs get faster access to emergency medical care. The bill includes a common-sense exception—it doesn't punish someone who injures a police dog while trying to give it emergency veterinary care in good faith. This is aimed at protecting the animals that work alongside law enforcement officers and ensuring they receive the same level of emergency response that their human partners would get.
