This bill is about making sure people who don't speak English well can understand information about gun violence prevention programs. Right now, when the federal government creates materials about things like extreme risk protection orders (which temporarily remove guns from people in crisis) or safe gun storage practices, these materials are mostly in English. This bill would require the Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services to translate all their important gun safety materials into the ten most commonly spoken languages in the U.S., including Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, and Korean.

The bill goes beyond just translating documents. It requires that translations be reviewed by community organizations that actually work with speakers of those languages to make sure the materials make sense culturally and are easy to understand. For example, a translation of "extreme risk protection order" needs to be checked by people who work in Spanish-speaking communities to ensure it's clear and appropriate. The government would pay these community organizations to do this review work.

The bill also creates two national awareness campaigns—one through the Justice Department and one through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention—specifically designed to reach people with limited English skills. These campaigns would provide information about gun violence prevention strategies and safe gun storage in multiple languages. Additionally, when police departments and other agencies apply for federal grants to run gun violence prevention programs, they'll get priority if they show they have a plan to reach non-English speakers in their communities.

Essentially, this bill aims to remove language as a barrier that prevents immigrants and non-English speakers from accessing information and programs designed to reduce gun violence and keep people safe.
