# Understanding the NFFSN Act

This bill makes changes to how the National Foundation on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition operates. The Foundation is an organization that promotes fitness, sports, and nutrition across the country, and this bill gives it more flexibility and independence to do its work.

The main change is that the Foundation can now receive federal money directly. Previously, it couldn't accept government funding, which limited what it could do. Now the Secretary of Health and Human Services can provide the Foundation with money, office space, utilities, and other support services. The Foundation can also apply for federal grants if it meets the eligibility requirements, just like other organizations do. This means the Foundation has more resources to carry out its mission of promoting fitness and healthy lifestyles.

The bill also changes how the Foundation's board of directors is run. Instead of having exactly 9 members, the board can now have at least 9 members and can grow larger if needed. More importantly, board members will now be appointed by the existing board members themselves through a majority vote, rather than through some other process. The bill also removes a rule that limited how much board members could be paid. Additionally, the Foundation gets more control over its own trademarks and branding without needing approval from the government each time.

National Foundation on Fitness, Sports, &amp; Nutrition Act or the NFFSN Act This bill permits the National Foundation on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition to receive federal funds upon meeting grant eligibility requirements and revises procedures for the appointment of board members. The board shall consist of at least nine members and may amend the bylaws of the foundation to increase the number of members.
