Additionally, the bill removes import duties on repairs made to American ships in shipyards located in allied countries. Currently, if an American ship gets fixed abroad, those repair costs face tariffs when the ship returns. This change lets ship owners save money by using repair facilities in allied nations without penalty. The practical effect is that American shipping companies get more flexibility in where they can get their ships serviced and maintained, potentially reducing costs and expanding their operational options.
