# Enduring Justice for Victims of Trafficking Act

This bill extends the statute of limitations for prosecuting human trafficking crimes, giving law enforcement and prosecutors more time to bring charges against traffickers. Currently, there are time limits on how long after a crime is committed that someone can be prosecuted. This bill removes or significantly extends those time limits specifically for trafficking cases, recognizing that trafficking victims often don't come forward immediately—sometimes not for years or even decades—due to fear, trauma, or control by their traffickers.

The practical effect is that prosecutors won't have to rush to bring charges before a deadline expires. If a trafficking victim finally feels safe enough to report what happened to them five, ten, or more years after the crime, authorities can still pursue justice. This is particularly important because trafficking victims frequently don't have access to phones, identification, or safe spaces to report crimes while they're being exploited. By the time they escape or are rescued, the original statute of limitations might have already run out, allowing traffickers to avoid prosecution simply because enough time had passed.

The bill recognizes that human trafficking is an ongoing crime with lasting trauma. Victims need time to heal, escape their situation, and feel secure enough to cooperate with law enforcement. Without this extended timeline, many trafficking cases would go unpunished not because evidence doesn't exist or the crime didn't happen, but simply because the legal deadline had expired. This change helps ensure that traffickers face accountability regardless of how long it takes victims to come forward.
