The Connected MOM Act focuses on making sure pregnant and postpartum women on Medicaid can access remote monitoring devices that track their health. These devices include things like pulse oximeters (which measure oxygen levels), blood pressure cuffs, scales, and blood glucose monitors that can be used at home and connected to healthcare providers.

Right now, different states have different rules about whether Medicaid will pay for these devices, and many states don't cover them at all. This creates barriers for low-income pregnant and postpartum women who could benefit from monitoring their health from home. The bill requires the federal government to study why states aren't covering these devices, what the barriers are, and how this affects the health of mothers and babies.

Within 18 months, the Secretary of Health and Human Services must report back to Congress with findings and recommendations. Then, within 6 months after that report, the federal government will update guidance and resources for state Medicaid programs to help them remove these barriers and start covering remote monitoring devices. The goal is to improve health outcomes for pregnant and postpartum women by making these helpful monitoring tools more accessible through Medicaid.

Connected Maternal Online Monitoring Act or the Connected MOM Act This bill requires the Centers for Medicare &amp; Medicaid Services to report, and provide resources for states, on coverage of remote physiologic devices and related services (e.g., blood glucose monitors) under Medicaid, so as to improve maternal and child health outcomes for pregnant and postpartum women.
