The government must also destroy any recordings of drone communications within 90 days unless they're needed for a criminal investigation. Additionally, the bill bans the use of drone-detection equipment made by companies connected to countries like China that the U.S. considers trade threats.

The bill creates new training requirements for people operating counter-drone systems and establishes an FAA office dedicated to managing drone threats. Congress will receive detailed annual reports about how many times the government used these powers, what happened during those operations, and whether any private property was damaged. These new authorities expire on October 1, 2030, unless Congress votes to extend them. The bill also creates a voluntary program for drone operators with good safety records to access airspace that's normally restricted, making it easier for legitimate commercial drone use while the government focuses on stopping dangerous ones.
