If your insurance plan covers these life-saving devices, you won't pay more than $60 for a package of two auto-injectors (or the equivalent in other forms like nasal spray or sublingual tablets). Insurance companies also can't charge you a separate deductible just to get epinephrine—it's covered upfront without that extra hurdle.

The bill applies to most Americans with health insurance through their employer or those who buy individual plans. It doesn't matter whether you get a traditional auto-injector, a nasal spray version, or another FDA-approved epinephrine delivery system—the $60 cap applies to all of them. Whatever you pay toward that $60 counts toward your annual deductible and out-of-pocket maximum, so it's not money on top of what you'd normally spend. The law takes effect for insurance plans starting in 2026, giving insurers time to adjust their systems.

There's one important limitation: if you use a doctor or pharmacy outside your insurance network, your insurance company can charge you more than $60. This protects people who use in-network providers while allowing insurers to manage costs for out-of-network care. The bill essentially recognizes that epinephrine auto-injectors are emergency medications that people with severe allergies need to have on hand, and it aims to remove financial barriers that might prevent someone from getting them when their life could depend on it.
