There are two narrow exceptions: employers can still use credit checks for jobs that require national security clearances, and they can use them when federal law specifically requires it. In those cases, employers still have to follow all the normal rules about telling people they're checking their credit and giving them a chance to dispute any errors.

The bill also prevents credit reporting agencies from providing credit information to employers for employment decisions, with the same exceptions.
