The Food Farmacy Act of 2025 creates a new federal grant program to help establish and run "food pharmacies" — places where people can get free or low-cost healthy food along with nutrition advice from doctors, nurses, or dietitians. Think of it like a pharmacy, but instead of medicine, you're getting nutritious groceries and professional guidance on how to eat better.

The federal government would provide grants of up to $500,000 per year to nonprofits, local governments, and tribal organizations that want to start or operate these food pharmacies. The money can be used to build or renovate facilities, buy equipment (including mobile food carts), hire staff, and purchase food. These food pharmacies must focus on serving people who struggle with food insecurity, live in rural areas, or have low incomes. Anyone on Medicaid or food stamps (SNAP) would get their food and nutrition counseling completely free.

The program is designed to work alongside the government's "Food is Medicine" initiative, recognizing that access to healthy food is actually a health issue. Organizations running these pharmacies would need to report back to the government each year about how many people they served, what health improvements they saw, and how they're helping people connect with other food assistance programs. The bill sets aside $10 million per year from 2026 through 2030 to fund this program nationwide.
