This bill expands a tax credit program to help companies that manufacture parts for fusion energy machines. Currently, the government offers tax credits to companies making advanced manufacturing components. This bill adds fusion energy parts to that list, so companies building these specialized components can now claim a 25% tax credit on their sales price.

The bill defines what counts as a fusion energy component—things like the powerful magnets that contain plasma, the chamber that holds the fusion reaction, cooling systems, high-voltage switches, lasers, and many other specialized parts needed to build and operate fusion reactors. Basically, if it's a component designed specifically for a fusion machine that produces electricity or heat, it qualifies for the credit.

The tax credit starts January 1, 2026, and runs through 2031 at the full 25% rate. After that, it phases out gradually: companies get 75% of the credit in 2032, 50% in 2033, 25% in 2034, and nothing after that. The bill also makes some technical updates to the tax code related to materials used in these components. The goal is to encourage American companies to invest in manufacturing fusion energy technology by making it more financially attractive to produce these parts domestically.
