# TRICARE Transition Transparency Act of 2025

This bill requires the Department of Defense to give military families and retirees advance warning when they need to make changes to their TRICARE health insurance coverage. TRICARE is the health insurance program for active-duty service members, retirees, and their families. The problem this bill addresses is that people sometimes miss deadlines for switching their coverage, which can leave them without insurance or force them into unwanted plan changes.

The bill requires the Defense Department to send electronic notices to anyone affected by a coverage transition at three specific times: one year before the change takes effect, six months before, and 30 days before. These notices will explain what changes are happening and what action the person needs to take. For example, if someone is aging out of their parent's TRICARE coverage or reaching an age where they need to switch to a different plan type, they'll get these reminders well in advance so they can prepare and make informed decisions about their healthcare.

Beyond just sending notices, the bill also requires the Defense Department to run a broader awareness campaign using their website, social media, and military family groups to help people understand when and how their coverage might change. The department must also report to Congress every year about how well these notification efforts are working and suggest improvements if needed. The goal is straightforward: make sure military families don't accidentally lose their health coverage or miss important deadlines simply because they didn't know a change was coming.
