This bill makes it easier for veterans to complain about their healthcare at the Department of Veterans Affairs by creating an online system. Right now, if a veteran has a problem with their VA medical care—whether it's a long wait time, poor treatment, or a billing issue—they have to file a complaint through whatever process their local VA facility uses, which might involve phone calls, in-person visits, or paper forms. This new law would require the VA to build a website or app where veterans can submit complaints electronically and then track what's happening with those complaints in real time.

The practical benefit is straightforward: veterans would be able to file complaints from home on their computer or phone, just like they might file a complaint with any other organization online. More importantly, they'd be able to log in anytime to see the status of their complaint and what actions the VA has taken to fix the problem. Instead of wondering if anyone received their complaint or what's being done about it, veterans would have transparency and visibility into the process. The VA has 18 months from when this bill becomes law to get the system up and running.

This affects any veteran who uses VA healthcare services and wants to report a problem. It also applies to their designated representatives—like a family member or advocate who helps manage their healthcare. Patient Advocate Tracker Act This bill requires the Office of Patient Advocacy within the Veterans Health Administration to establish an information technology system that allows veterans or their representatives to electronically file a complaint with a patient advocate and review the status of a filed complaint.
