The Attorney General has 180 days to write the specific rules for how this will work, including guidance for machines already in existence before the law passes. Businesses that legally manufacture and sell these machines will need to comply with the new serial number requirements, but the rules don't apply to machines made before the regulations take effect. This is designed to help law enforcement crack down on the illegal pill press operations that have become a major source of counterfeit drugs fueling the overdose crisis.
