The Grandfamily Housing Act of 2025 creates a new federal grant program to help owners of homes where multiple generations live together—like grandparents raising grandchildren or other family arrangements spanning different age groups. These grants are designed to make these multi-generational homes better equipped to support all the people living in them.

If a property owner qualifies and receives a grant, they can use the money to hire a service coordinator who works on-site to help families in the building. This coordinator would arrange things like tutoring for kids, health care services, after-school programs, and age-appropriate activities. The coordinator also connects families with local kinship navigator programs (which help relatives who are raising children) and helps plan community events and outreach to other multi-generational families in the area. Property owners can also use grant money to fix up and maintain spaces within their buildings that will be used for these services and programs.

The program will run from 2026 through 2030, with Congress deciding how much money to set aside each year. The government will make sure the program follows fair housing laws so that no one faces discrimination. Within two years of the law passing, the Housing and Urban Development Secretary must report back to Congress about how well the program is working and suggest any changes that could make it better.
