This bill would send a one-time payment of $200 to millions of Americans who receive certain government benefits. The payment would go to people receiving Social Security, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), railroad retirement benefits, and veterans disability or pension payments. The payments would be made once a month between January and June 2026 to eligible recipients.

To qualify, you need to be receiving one of these specific benefits and living in the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, or the Northern Mariana Islands. If you receive multiple types of benefits, you'd still only get one $200 payment per month. The bill excludes people whose benefits were stopped or reduced due to certain legal restrictions, and it doesn't apply to anyone who passes away before their payment is processed.

The $200 payment won't count as income for tax purposes or affect your eligibility for other federal assistance programs like food stamps or housing assistance. The government agencies involved—Social Security, the Railroad Retirement Board, the Veterans Affairs Department, and the Office of Personnel Management—would have 30 days to start processing and sending out these payments. The bill sets aside money for the payments themselves plus administrative costs to handle the distribution.
