This bill creates a new federal grant program to help more girls and underrepresented minorities pursue science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers. The U.S. Department of Education will award competitive grants of $250,000 per year for four years to school districts that serve low-income students. Schools can use this money for a wide range of activities: after-school STEM clubs, summer programs, tutoring and mentoring, field trips to colleges and tech companies, professional development for teachers to reduce bias, internship programs, and purchasing equipment or software. The program also encourages parent involvement by educating families about STEM career opportunities and helping them support their children's interest in these subjects. Schools must show they have a comprehensive plan to boost STEM education from kindergarten through 12th grade, and they need to partner with outside organizations that have expertise in getting girls and minorities interested in STEM fields. Each year, schools must report back to the Department of Education about their progress, including how many students participated and whether their academic performance improved. The bill sets aside $10 million per year in federal funding for this program from 2026 through 2029.
