# The PLACE Act: Supporting Creative Jobs and Arts in America

The PLACE Act (Promoting Local Arts and Creative Economy Workforce Act) is a comprehensive federal initiative designed to support artists, craftspeople, musicians, performers, and other creative workers across the United States. At its core, the bill recognizes that creative industries—like music, visual arts, theater, design, crafts, and cultural heritage work—can be stable, local jobs that won't move overseas, and the government should invest in helping people develop careers in these fields.

The bill creates several practical programs to help people get trained and employed in creative work. The Department of Labor would offer wage subsidies to employers who hire people in creative industries, essentially helping to pay part of workers' salaries as they get established. The Department of Education would develop training programs for creative careers, similar to how vocational schools teach trades. There are also specific programs aimed at helping people recovering from opioid addiction transition into creative work, giving them a pathway to meaningful employment and economic stability. Veterans with service-connected disabilities would get special support and resources to pursue creative careers, and people affected by disasters would have access to emergency assistance and job training through FEMA.

The bill also includes tax incentives to encourage businesses to invest in creative industries and helps creative workers and businesses access international markets. It establishes an advisory board to coordinate federal support for the creative economy across different agencies. For rural and underserved communities, this could mean new economic opportunities—local artists and craftspeople could get support to grow their businesses, create jobs, and help revitalize their regions. Native American communities would have particular support for preserving and developing their cultural traditions as viable economic activities.
