The Workforce of the Future Act of 2025 is designed to help American workers adapt to the rapid growth of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies. The bill recognizes that while AI could displace workers in certain industries, there's also a major opportunity to prepare people for new tech jobs—currently there are over 400,000 unfilled computing and technology positions in the U.S., with projections for 660,000 more by 2032.

The bill has two main parts. First, it requires the Departments of Labor, Commerce, and Education to study how AI will affect different industries and workers, then publish reports with recommendations on how to help people learn the skills they need. Second, it provides $160 million in grants to schools and educational organizations to expand technology education from elementary school through high school, ensuring all students—especially those in low-income, rural, and minority communities—have access to computer science and coding classes. It also provides $90 million in grants to help workers already in the job market who are affected by AI get training for new, better-paying jobs.

The bill specifically targets groups most at risk of being left behind, including low-income students, minorities, girls, rural communities, and workers who've lost jobs to automation. It emphasizes that technology education should prepare students not just for tech careers, but for any career in the modern economy, since AI skills are becoming essential everywhere. The grants require schools and training programs to work closely with industry to make sure they're teaching the skills employers actually need, and to track whether their programs are actually helping students and workers succeed.
