This bill addresses a serious problem affecting military families: mold and moisture damage in military housing. The Department of Defense will launch a test program at 3-5 military bases to try out new technologies that can detect and prevent mold before it becomes a major problem. These technologies include advanced moisture sensors that give early warnings, and new cleaning methods like antimicrobial coatings and UV sterilization systems. The military will focus on bases in humid or rainy regions where mold is most likely to grow. At the same time, the bill requires the Pentagon to create one standard set of rules for how to clean up mold across all military branches—right now different branches handle mold differently, which can lead to inconsistent results. These new mold cleanup rules must follow industry best practices and state health standards. The goal is to protect military families living in base housing from mold-related health problems and to make sure taxpayer money is spent effectively on housing maintenance.

To require the Secretary of Defense to establish a pilot program for emerging technologies for moisture control and mitigation in covered housing, to standardize certain mold remediation guidelines, and for other purposes.
