# Military Spouse Job Continuity Act

When military members get reassigned to a new base, their families have to move too. This often means military spouses have to leave their jobs and find new ones in a different state. The problem is that many professions—like nursing, teaching, counseling, or law—require a license that's only valid in the state where you got it. When a spouse moves to a new state, they have to get relicensed in that state, which costs money and takes time. Right now, the military has temporary authority to reimburse service members for these relicensing costs, but that authority is set to expire.

This bill makes that reimbursement program permanent. Instead of the military having to renew its authority to pay for spouse relicensing costs every few years, this change locks it in indefinitely. That means military spouses won't have to worry about whether they'll be able to afford the fees to get licensed in their new state when their family relocates. It removes a financial barrier that can make it harder for military spouses to keep working in their professions and maintain their careers despite frequent moves.

The practical impact is straightforward: military families will have one less financial burden when they're reassigned. A spouse who's a nurse or teacher won't have to choose between paying hundreds or thousands of dollars out of pocket for new licensing fees or taking time off work while their family adjusts to the move. Military Spouse Job Continuity Act This bill makes permanent the authority for the military departments to reimburse a member of the uniformed services for qualified relicensing costs for the profession of the spouse of the member when the member is reassigned and the movement of the member's dependents is authorized at the expense of the United States. Under current law, such reimbursement may not exceed $1,000 in connection with each reassignment.
