# What the Reimagining Inclusive Arts Education Act Does

This bill creates a federal grant program to help schools teach arts classes—like music, drama, dance, and poetry—in ways that work better for kids with disabilities. Right now, many students with disabilities struggle to participate in arts education because teachers often aren't trained in how to adapt lessons and materials for different learning needs. This bill aims to fix that by giving money to schools and school districts to train their arts teachers and therapists on inclusive teaching methods.

The Department of Education will award grants to eligible organizations—which can be individual school districts, state education agencies, or partnerships between schools and colleges or nonprofits. Schools that receive grants will use the money to develop better teaching practices, create adapted materials, and provide professional training for arts educators and creative arts therapists. Creative arts therapy is when therapists use music, dance, drama, or poetry as a tool to help students communicate, express emotions, and improve their overall well-being. The grants will last up to three years, with the possibility of extending for two more years if the program shows it's working.

The bill prioritizes funding for schools that serve lower-income communities and tries to spread grants across different types of areas—cities, suburbs, rural communities, and tribal lands. Schools that don't receive grants can reapply after a year and will get feedback on how to strengthen their applications. Overall, the bill authorizes $15 million over five years to fund these programs, which means more kids with disabilities could have genuine access to arts education rather than being left out or sitting on the sidelines.
