# Veterans Flight Training Responsibility Act of 2024

This bill puts a cap on how much money the Department of Veterans Affairs will pay toward flight training for veterans using their Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits. Starting August 1, 2025, veterans attending public colleges or universities for flight training programs can receive a maximum of $100,000 in educational assistance for flight training fees. This limit applies only to flight training at public institutions—it doesn't affect other types of education or training that veterans pursue with their GI Bill benefits.

The $100,000 cap isn't completely frozen in place. Each year, the government will automatically increase this limit based on inflation, using the Consumer Price Index to measure how prices have risen over the previous year. So if inflation goes up 3 percent, the $100,000 limit would increase by roughly 3 percent the following year. This means the cap will gradually grow to keep pace with rising costs of flight training programs.

The practical effect is that veterans pursuing pilot training or other flight certifications at public universities will have a defined spending limit on what the VA will cover. For most veterans, $100,000 is substantial and may cover most or all of a flight training program, but those pursuing expensive certifications or additional ratings might find themselves responsible for costs beyond this cap. The bill only affects veterans who start their flight training programs on or after August 1, 2025, so current students won't be impacted by this new rule.
