This is designed to help seniors deal with inflation—the rising cost of living—by letting them keep more of what they earn.

The bill only applies temporarily to 2022 and 2023, so after that, the earnings limit goes back to whatever the normal rules would be. The government also promises to make sure the Social Security Trust Fund isn't harmed by this change, meaning they'll cover any extra costs so the fund stays healthy for future beneficiaries.
