# Understanding the Abortion Care Awareness Act of 2024

This bill would direct the federal government to launch a nationwide public education campaign about abortion access and related health services. The Department of Health and Human Services would be responsible for creating and running this campaign, which would inform people about where they can get abortion care, how medication abortion works, and their legal rights regarding reproductive health services.

The campaign would specifically educate people about several key topics: how to find abortion services both in-person and through telehealth, the legality of abortion and medication abortion under current laws, accurate medical information about abortion pills like mifepristone and misoprostol, and people's right to travel across state lines to obtain abortion services. The bill also requires the campaign to help people distinguish between actual abortion clinics and "crisis pregnancy centers" (sometimes called anti-abortion centers), which often provide misleading information about reproductive health. Additionally, the campaign would teach people how to identify false or misleading claims about abortion and contraception circulating online and elsewhere.

The bill emphasizes that this campaign must be designed specifically for underserved communities, including communities of color, immigrants, people with disabilities, people with limited English skills, low-income individuals, young people, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people in rural areas. The campaign cannot spread misinformation about abortion safety, promote unproven "abortion reversal" treatments, or collect personal data from people who visit campaign websites or apps. The Department would work with medical professionals, reproductive rights organizations, and public health departments to develop the campaign.
